Community – Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC)

Partner Jeff Smith is shelving the running shoes and signature “Red” hat this year and is foregoing the 2018 Litchfield Hills Road Race in June.  Instead, he has strapped on his helmet and will be participating in the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) 2-day, 200-mile bicycle ride along with his son, Tyler.

The Pan-Mass Challenge is an annual bike-a-thon that raises money for life-saving cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  Jeff’s ride will start Saturday, August 4 in Sturbridge, MA and end Sunday, August 5 in Provincetown, MA. All riders commit to a fundraising goal dependent on the ride they are taking on.  His fundraising goal is $4,900. The PMC donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to Dana-Farber and since 1980 has contributed nearly $600 million of support.

Having thought and talked about the ride for a couple of years, Jeff finally decided this is the year.  He is supporting this ride for several reasons.  First, he wanted to support an Organization dedicated to cancer research.  Second, Jeff wanted to dedicate his ride in memory of his Father and as a tribute to his Mother.  Lastly, he loves bike riding and wanted to fulfill a long-term promise to Tyler of taking a long-distance bike ride.  It’s not necessarily the trip from their former home in Massachusetts to grandma’s in Connecticut, but it will be an experience.

If you would like to support the cause and help Jeff meet his fundraising goal, you can make a donation online at Pan-Mass Challenge (www.pmc.org/profile/JS0889).

Wish Jeff luck!
