Jeffrey A. Smith, CPA
Jeff joined Petrovits, Patrick, Smith & Company LLC in 1997 and was named a member in 2001. He manages the payroll processing department and serves a diverse clientele, including manufacturers, construction contractors, medical professionals, wholesalers and retailers. His responsibilities also include accounting, tax, small business advisory, and other financial services. In addition, he assists clients in the implementation of computerized accounting systems, and he designs training programs to help them streamline their recordkeeping. He also manages an extensive individual tax practice. Within Petrovits, Patrick, Smith & Company LLC, his partnership responsibilities include human resources.
Jeff has more than 15 years of experience in the accounting profession, the majority of them in public accounting. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting, from The University of Connecticut in Storrs. He is a former Volunteer Income Tax Assistant for the Internal Revenue Service.
Jeff is a member of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants, serving on its Manufacturing Committee. He is an active member and treasurer of the Rotary Club of Torrington and a Chairman on the Citizen Review Committee of the United Way of Northwest Connecticut, Inc. He is an incorporator and advisor of the Northwest Connecticut Economic Development Corporation. He is a 2004 graduate of the Northwest Connecticut Chamber's Leadership Northwest Program and a co-founder of the YIKES Program (Youth Involvement Keeping Enrichment Soaring).
Jeff strives to instill in each client the importance of understanding and managing one's own financial situation, identifying goals and the point at which professional assistance would be beneficial in attaining them.
For recreation, Jeff hikes, bicycles, water-skis, and travels with his family. He is a sports enthusiast, especially baseball. He competes in his church softball league, and he coaches in his town's youth baseball, soccer, and basketball programs. |
